Project description

This work explores the relationship between the self and others during growth through ceramic form. Made of sculpted clay, the petals envelop and protect the inner creation. The two large outer petals act as a defensive barrier built around the self, attempting to shelter the fragile and precious core inside. At the center of the piece, a small flower cradles a melting candle; the dripping wax symbolizes the passage of time, an act of devotion, and the gradual fading of the self. While the flame brings light, it also signifies the candle's own transformation and consumption—much like how, in offering love and protection to others, we might unknowingly sacrifice a part of ourselves.

Instead of using saturated or vibrant glazes, I deliberately chose faded clay tones with marks that look like dryness or scars, metaphorically representing the challenges and tribulations brought by time and the environment.
