Project description

Art offers us the chance to view the world anew, deepening our appreciation for the overlooked.

Lighthouse is a mixed-media collage inspired by a moment of serenity during a weekend sketch in Hong Kong, where the interplay of sea, sunlit reflections, twin lighthouses, and drifting clouds struck me with their quiet beauty. Symbolizing resilience and guidance, the lighthouse becomes a metaphor—both for physical navigation and the inner light that steers us through life’s storms.

This project embodies an innovation through its sustainable approach, crafted entirely through collage, using repurposed magazine pages to reconstruct the landscape. Each fragment—carefully cut, layered, and assembled—breathes new life into discarded materials, echoing the lighthouse’s role as a beacon of renewal. The technique blends abstraction with realism: textured paper mimics waves and rocks, while color gradients evoke the sun’s glow on water. The way the papers are selected and arranged creates a sense of motion, reflecting nature’s graceful flow.

The materials in this collage transform a fleeting instant into lasting art, where fragmented pieces find harmony. This balance invites reflection on life’s contrasts—chaos and calm, the temporary and the enduring. The Chinese words 'Way of Seeing Things' were chosen to show the artwork's core message: art helps us see everything in fresh new ways.
