Project description

I love creating art that makes people smile and think, “Wait, why is that there?!” This painting came from a silly daydream: what if a little wild bird went on a big adventure and mistook my favourite snack—a yummy, savory rice dumpling—for its own private mountain peak? It is a whimsical, crazy mash-up of nature and traditional food, showing how magical everyday things can be when you let your imagination run wild.

I used vibrant poster colours to bring this little story to life. Behind the bird, the icy blue and purple mountain peaks look like something out of a storybook beneath a warm, peachy-pink sunset sky. Perched right at the top is my brave little feathered hero, painted with bright pops of fire-red, sunshine-yellow, and ocean-blue so it looks like it’s about to chirp or take flight!

The big rice dumpling at the base is full of tasty little details. I dotted individual grains of sticky rice across the front and painted the glowing salted egg yolk right in the middle, shining like a tiny golden sun tucked inside the dark green bamboo leaves. I hope my painting makes people giggle, feel hungry, and remember that art does not always have to be super serious. Sometimes, it can just be joyful, curious, and totally unexpected!
