Project description

Raised Ground is a shelter designed for people in Myanmar who have lost their homes and families, whether due to natural disasters such as recent years' earthquakes and flooding, or other circumstances. Inspired by the layered and ascending forms of Burmese temples, the building is divided into five sections that gradually move from high to low levels on both sides of the shelter. However, unlike traditional temples, which are full of relief-carved details, this space features a minimalist design that merges religious and modern architecture.

The surrounding moat takes inspiration from the historic moat of Mandalay Palace, reinterpreted as a system to prevent flooding and raise the building above the ground by a floor and a half. I believe this project would create a new ground for people who have lost their homes in Myanmar.
