Project description

Product Concept Design project theme : Symbiosis - Weaving a net zero Life

Designer Dr. Sophie Colline is of French nationality and holds a DNSEP diploma from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Bourges, France. She is a contemporary artist and designer specializing in product design for textile material modeling applications. After being invited by Feng Chia University in 2010 to serve as the convener of the Creative Design Credit Program, the Acting Director of the Master of Creative Design Program, and an Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management, she began to cooperate with Tex Tile Enterprises and Zhanyi Science & Technology Company. Since 2011, we have developed waste edge reuse products: waste edge heating plates and diaper trimming yarn product series (slippers, luggage curtains, home pillows). We participated in the competition in the name of Feng Chia University and won awards of gold medal in Pittsburgh, the United States, and Geneva, Switzerland. Feng Chia University was established in 1960, and the College of Engineering is the oldest college.

Blaise Pascal (1623-1662) of France said, “we will die alone. So you have to act like one.’ (In French : On mourra seul. Il faut donc faire comme si on était seul.). We exist in a society where everyone, rich or poor, will eventually leave this earth. Because we are all closely connected to this earth, the remaining waste and garbage of various items produced by humans have caused huge harm to the ecological environment, and we must pay the price for this earth. Blanket-like products woven from scrap fabric strips are similar to those used by many aborigines or African tribes, or in Central Asia countries, such as Mongolia, Xinjiang nomads, Turkey, and Iran. The living space of a family is covered with floor mats. This creation is unfolded as a flat blanket-like product and rolled up into a woven stool, making waste materials a part of home life and coexisting with us. Let the chairs and stools, which symbolize power and status, return to the equal relationship of coexistence, and let us once again face the natural and innocent real life.
