Project description

THE TUNDRA FOLD is an architectural intervention designed for high-altitude wilderness, serving as a dual-purpose node: a vital refuge for mountaineers and a long-term station for ecological research. Structurally, the architecture maintains a low profile, humblingly adapting to the natural contours and valley topography. Above a foundational rectangular footprint, a series of multi-directional, triangular-faceted roofs fold the built mass into the mountain ridges, achieving a seamless invisibility that blurs the boundary between nature and shelter. To ensure high-altitude resilience, elongated horizontal observation windows are strategically integrated across varying elevations and orientations. These slits not only frame the surrounding wilderness for ecological monitoring but also function as redundant emergency egress pathways, guaranteeing a safe escape route should extreme blizzards compromise or submerge the base.
