Project description
The 2026 Taoyuan Artists Invitational Exhibition is poised to captivate audiences with its central theme, "The More Local, the More International." This thought-provoking concept reimagines the curatorial framework of regional art exhibitions by seamlessly blending contemporary interpretations of Eastern artistic media with the dynamic branding of the city. As a result, the exhibition promises an immersive cultural experience that not only celebrates a rich local identity but also embraces a wide-reaching global perspective.
Bringing together an impressive collective of 131 artists deeply connected to Taoyuan, this exhibition serves as a vibrant showcase of the city’s artistic vitality. Highlighting four principal disciplines—calligraphy, ink painting, Nihonga painting, and seal and porcelain engraving—each artwork invites visitors into a world where tradition meets innovation. Moreover, the exhibition’s visual identity, inspired by the Chinese numerals for "2026", introduces an engaging aesthetic. Through the use of geometric deconstruction, the silhouette of traditional upturned eaves, and a striking yellow seal symbolizing both the Oriental Pearl and the rising sun in the East, the exhibition encapsulates the essence of Eastern culture. These thoughtfully integrated elements redefine Eastern traditions through a modern visual language, effectively conveying Taoyuan’s cultural confidence. Ultimately, this initiative reinforces the city’s identity as a creatively vibrant hub that is intricately connected to the international art scene.
The exhibition employs a thoughtfully crafted dual-venue curatorial strategy, bridging the Taoyuan Department of Cultural Affairs and Terminal 1 of Taoyuan International Airport. To create a cohesive experience, a unified visual identity has been meticulously adapted, responding to the unique spatial scales and viewing contexts of each location. At the Department of Cultural Affairs, visitors are invited into an immersive environment, where large-scale suspended illuminated sphere installations dance above them, complemented by captivating multimedia animations. Furthermore, the carefully designed visitor circulation guides audiences through a sensory journey, ensuring that each moment is engaging and memorable. Meanwhile, at the airport venue, a transformative approach has been taken. Redesigned exhibition walls and intuitive visual wayfinding work harmoniously to create a seamless integration of art into the travel experience. Artistic pieces are thoughtfully curated and strategically placed, transforming the waiting area into a dynamic space that fosters cultural exchange, inviting travelers to pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty of creativity amidst their journeys.
To enhance the exhibition, the team thoughtfully curated an engaging Art Carnival, a vibrant Creative Market, and a series of interactive workshops. These initiatives encompassed a digital stamp collection, immersive NFT experiences, and an array of cultural merchandise, all designed to foster active public participation. Moreover, in conjunction with high-precision digital archiving and cross-venue curation, the project featured captivating live performances and a cohesive integrated marketing communications strategy. As a result, this multifaceted approach not only elevated the exhibition design but also significantly enriched cultural engagement, ultimately extending the influence of local art beyond the confines of the exhibition space and seamlessly weaving it into the fabric of everyday public experiences.
