Project description

Buttons, like amulets, are worn close to the body, making them ideal objects for carrying blessings. Button Blessings transforms buttons into portable charms rooted in traditional faith, enabling people to carry spiritual protection in daily life. The project focuses on five deities associated with themes relevant to modern youth: love, cutting toxic ties, wealth, fortune, and protection from ill-willed people. Each deity is redesigned with a simple, modern aesthetic and paired with clear, meaningful blessing phrases. Complementing the button sets are three booklets that present the deities’ stories, symbols, and background. The books use a dragon-scale binding style inspired by temples—pages curl upward as they open, layering like dragon scales and evoking the texture of temple rooftops. Interactive features invite users to choose a theme and draw a matching fortune poem, blending ritual with playful engagement. When closed, the booklets and buttons fit into a custom wooden box, forming a complete set that integrates belief, design, and interaction into a meaningful personal object.
