DESIGN CONCEPT
Flexknee demonstrates how assistive technology can close the gap between physical limitations and emotional well-being. More than a medical device, it is a thoughtfully designed solution that combines person-centred care, intelligent interaction, and aesthetic flexibility. Guided by empathy, it aims to restore independence, dignity, and quality of life for people with temporary or long-term mobility challenges.
BACKGROUND
Elderly individuals, post-operative patients, and those confined to bed are highly vulnerable to immobility-related complications such as muscle contractures, pressure sores, and poor circulation. These conditions reduce comfort, slow recovery, and increase caregiver burden, creating a pressing need for solutions that support both physical rehabilitation and psychological well-being.
DISPLAYED FUNCTIONS ON THE MOBILE DEVICE
The Flexknee mobile app offers five key functions in a clear and accessible interface: Home provides daily summaries with quick start/stop control; Settings manages personal data, Bluetooth, notifications, and backups; Sessions displays detailed progress reports with export options; Control enables real-time flexion monitoring with adjustable angles and pace; and Help delivers tutorials, FAQs, support, and family resources. Together, these functions enhance rehabilitation adherence, ensure transparency, and reduce caregiver workload.
SOLUTION
Flexknee is a passive knee-motion assistive system powered by a gentle, low-torque mechanism. It delivers controlled flexion and extension to prevent immobility-related complications, improve circulation, and reduce discomfort. Designed for users unable to move independently, it provides safe support for recovery while easing caregiver responsibilities. Flexknee represents a practical and compassionate solution that promotes healthier ageing and better rehabilitation outcomes.
