Folding Space

Design Type: Exhibition Pavilion Design

Design Year: 2024

Design Unit: Ueternity

Concept Statement

"Folding Space" challenges the archetype of the exhibition box by reimagining spatial boundaries through the act of folding. Inspired by the transformation of a cubic form into an unfolded layout, the design deconstructs and reassembles planes into an expressive geometry, creating a dynamic and immersive spatial experience.

Spatial Strategy

The folded geometry derives from a deconstructed box, generating non-orthogonal lines that challenge linear circulation. Strategic inclinations in walls and ceilings shape spatial rhythm, guiding visitors through visual cues and shadow interplay. The core triangular insert not only defines interior zones but acts as a visual hinge of the entire volume.

Material and Light

The design integrates Dupont solid surface for faceted panels, wood veneer for warmth, and LED strip lighting to emphasize folded lines. The flooring features contrasting grains to echo directional shifts, while display cubes on the wall present finish samples as sculptural elements.

Design Highlights

- Geometry born from folding breaks spatial monotony

- Boundaries blur between wall, ceiling, and floor

- Lighting and form work in tandem to define space

- Display = Structure = Experience
