Project description
The project is a model home located near by the MRT Linkou Chang Gung A8 Station. Drawing from the site’s hospital-adjacent location, the designer envisioned the home of a physician’s family: a father who is a doctor, a mother who is a musician, and children raised in an atmosphere that values both discipline and culture. Accordingly, the design employs a palette of black, white, and gray, complemented by a study and accompanying reading space that reflect a balance between order and humanity. The open study design enhances interaction among family members, fostering both knowledge and personal interests in the children’s upbringing.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION/DIFFERENTIATION
The study behind the living room forms the project’s visual and functional core. Its black backdrop wall with layered shelving recalls musical notes on a staff, symbolizing the interplay of rationality and emotional resonance. Serving both as a companion-reading zone and a shared environment for thought and discussion, the study strengthens family cohesion.
In the children’s bedroom, a miniature wooden cabin built beneath the wardrobe provides a sense of security akin to a secret base, doubling as both storage and a stage for imaginative play.
The dining space features a long table paired with a display cabinet that emphasizes family gatherings. Illuminated shelving highlights ornaments and photographs, preserving memories as living vignettes. Linear lighting on the ceiling extends visual depth, harmonizing with the warmth of wooden wall panels. Altogether, the design not only fulfills functional needs but also ensures that every corner resonates with emotional meaning.
PRODUCTION OR REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY (AND MATERIALS)
The design emphasizes “authentic materials,” employing durable stone and wood veneer to ensure lasting quality. Gray-toned wood veneer and black steel accents add refinement to the details. The gray-white foundation presents a rational and pristine environment, which, when paired with indirect lighting, transforms into a warm and inviting atmosphere. During the day, the space exudes clarity and discipline, while at night it radiates a comforting glow—achieving a balance between professionalism, cleanliness, and the warmth essential to family living.
SPECIFICATIONS / DIMENSIONS / PACKAGE / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES
The property measures 116 square meters on title, with 79 square meters of interior space. The original three-bedroom layout was reconfigured into two bedrooms plus an open study. The living and dining areas are seamlessly connected, with a display cabinet adjacent to the dining table to support both daily meals and family gatherings. The study includes a daybed, allowing for reading, companion learning, or rest. Though compact, the open layout and thoughtful zoning give the 116 square meters interior the sense of scale and presence typical of a much larger residence.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION/FUNCTION
Despite its modest size, the redesigned home conveys the sence of a 132 TO 165 square meters residence. The open-plan, combined with a balanced palette of materials and colors, enhances both breadth and warmth. A six-person dining table accommodates family gatherings without crowding. The integration of the open study with the display cabinet allows children to learn in the presence of their parents, strengthening familial bonds. The overall atmosphere strikes a balance between professionalism and intimacy, elevating the quality of daily life.
